About the Program
In the weeks preceding Thanksgiving, TechCentric helped contribute to the Cranston, Rhode Island based Comprehensive Community Action Program, or better known as CCAP. According to their About page, “Comprehensive Community Action Program is a Cranston-based private, nonprofit community action agency formed under the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act.” The program is one of Rhode Island’s largest organizations that are solely focused on fighting the war on poverty by empowering people and communities that have been challenged by poverty as well as “social and cultural barriers through advocacy, education, and access to high quality health and human services”.
Starting in October of this year, CCAP began the 2015 “Lending a Helping Hand” Holiday Food Drive which spanned over a month, starting October 9th through November 18th. The goal of the drive was to acquire enough food to make three hundred Thanksgiving food baskets for families in need. Many of the items that were requested were food items such as canned corn, canned yams, boxed mashed potatoes, and frozen turkey to name a few. On top of food, they were also accepting gift cards for grocery stores and direct donations to the organization for the drive.
Although food was primarily what CCAP focused on receiving, we wondered what we could do to help this cause. That was when we at TechCentric decided to contribute by donating funds to help pay for food and supplies. We hoped that by doing so, we would greatly assist CCAP to achieve their goal to give a delicious Thanksgiving dinner to families that have unfortunately fallen victim to poverty.
